Possibilities

Digital Portraits of some of the activists I am proud to have worked with.

Carolina Parakeets

their song, as brilliant as their feathers, will never be heard again.

when they tried to share in food we believed was ours we shot them. these beautiful birds refused to leave a member of their flock behind, so they did not scatter when we fired; they remained with their parents and children and mates and siblings until we had killed every one.

extinct. we killed them all.

no one did this with intent, each action was taken in isolation.

today we know that many species are on the edge of extinction because of climate change. because of us.

we can do better.

Ancestral Tree J30‎

22″ x 28″ Mixed Media Created as the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department arrested us during the eviction of Occupy Charlotte and the destruction of the Art Studio. The writing on the left is a list of my maternal ancestors, who arrived in 1698 and then moved to the Charlotte area. They were Quakers and camped here as a nonviolent protest. The words on the right side ask “Will I be arrested for crayons? How can this be?”
